Features: Unique and Beautiful…….Amazonian ceramic pottery is handmade by natives of the Amazon region of Brazil, using clay from the banks of the Amazon and its tributaries. This outstanding specialty craft represents an ancient tradition of artistry dating over 7000 years. During that period the Marajoara natives used exquisite techniques to format and decorate their pottery. While in its molding and soft stage, the pots are put in contact with various textured surfaces; cloth, floor mats, ropes, etc. This produces unique and decorative effects. While still soft the pots are bathed in natural paints called "engobo" (white) and "urucum" (red). Intricate and complex designs are then handcarved with primitive tools; bone fragments, sea shells, sticks and fingers. The painted surfaces are then finished with organic materials found within the region. This a beautiful and meticulous work of art, handcrafted by skilled artisans. Approx. 12" high x 14" wide.
